RSS expresses concern over Hindu persecution in India

Body
A three-day annual meeting of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) has been started on March 11 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. On the first day, General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale published the annual report before nearly 1200 members of RSS came from all States. In this report, the organization expressed concern over incidences of Hindu persecution across the country.

'Violence, Mistrust - Barriers to Healthy Democracy'

The concern has also been expressed on unhealthy democracy incidences. The report stated that after the declaration of the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal, riots and widespread violence at many places in the State created a gruesome atmosphere. If violence, fear, malice, violation of law becomes rampant in the society, not only will there be unrest, instability, but democracy, mutual trust etc. will also be destroyed. The events that took place in Bengal in May 2021 were a result of political animosity and religious fanaticism.

The report further stated that the citizens of one State had to go for a safe haven in the neighbouring State for their safety, is not only a failure of administration but also points to a situation of gross violation of democracy and the Constitution.

'Divisive Conspiracy'

The report claimed that the challenge of increasing divisive elements in the country is also alarming. Efforts are also afoot to weaken the society by raising various fissiparous tendencies in the Hindu society itself. As the census year approaches, there are instances of inciting a group by propagating that "they are not Hindus". In the context of Hindutva, there are conspiracies to make unwarranted allegations by spreading various types of falsehoods.

'Religious fanaticism'

Several activists of Hindu organizations have been killed across the country. The report stated that the formidable form of growing religious fanaticism in the country has raised its head again in many places. The brutal murders of activists of Hindu organizations in Kerala, Karnataka, are an example of this menace. Series of dastardly acts revealing communal hysteria, rallies, demonstrations, violation of social discipline, custom and conventions under the guise of the Constitution and religious freedom, inciting violence by instigating meagre causes, promoting illegal activities, etc. is increasing.

Fraudulent religious conversion of Hindu

On the religious conversion, the report claimed that there is continuous information about the planned conversion of Hindus in different parts of the country like Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh etc. This challenge has a long history, but, of late, different newer ways of converting new groups are being adopted. It is true that the social and religious leaders and institutions of Hindu society have woken up to some extent and become active to check this trend. It seems necessary to make joint and coordinated efforts in this direction in a more planned manner.

'Necessary to create discourse based on Bharatiya values'

On the background of false and Hinduphobic narratives, the report stated that it is necessary to create effective and strong ideological discourse based on truth and facts about Nationality, Hindutva, its history, social philosophy, cultural values and tradition etc. At the same time, emphasis will also have to be laid on the manifestation of conduct and behaviour relevant to current times, based on Bharatiya values of life in personal, family and social lives, and it is desirable that this endeavour becomes widespread, especially among the younger generation. RSS was founded on September 27, 1925, by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, a doctor in the city of Nagpur, British India. The organization promotes the ideals of upholding Indian culture and the values of civil society. RSS has several affiliated organizations that established numerous schools, hospitals, and other institutes to serve the country's needy people. The RSS was also banned during British rule for its involvement in India's independence movement.
